06 — Windows and workspaces

Tiling, focus, workspaces, and monitor assignment

CONFIG Hyprland uses dwindle, 5 px inner gaps, 20 px outer gaps, and 2 px borders.

Super + Q closes the active window, Super + V toggles floating, and Super + F toggles fullscreen. Arrow keys or H/J/K/L move focus; Shift adds window swapping. The shortcut explorer is authoritative for exact combinations.

  • DP-1: 1–5
  • HDMI-A-1: 6–10
  • DVI-D-1: 11–16
  • special workspace magic: Super + S; move a window with Super + Shift + S

Old .working and .save files are not merged into the active state.

Tiling is the default placement model; floating and fullscreen are states applied to a particular window. Focus movement changes the input target, while moving a window changes layout ownership. A workspace assignment determines the configured destination but does not prove that a currently disconnected output is available.

If behaviour changes, first identify the exact window, state, workspace, and output. Confirm the binding in the generated explorer, then inspect the active rule and monitor line. Change only the proven binding or rule, validate parser state, repeat the same action, and restore the saved line if placement regresses. See Monitors and input for the configuration/runtime distinction.
