10 — Audio, network, and Bluetooth

Safe connectivity and service diagnostics

The bar shows audio and network; its Bluetooth icon is disabled. The audio increment is 0.1 and maximum configured volume is 1.0. Private device names, SSIDs, IPs, and MAC addresses are not published.

wpctl status

Expected: An audio tree; device names may reveal hardware models.

Interpretation: Confirm that the intended source, sink, and stream exist before changing volume or defaults.

Expected: User-service states, or a connection error outside a functioning user session.

Interpretation: A running service is necessary for its function but does not prove the whole audio or portal path works.

Expected: Connectivity state without passwords.

Interpretation: General connectivity does not identify DNS, routing, or one-application failures by itself.

Expected: Controller state; redact its address before sharing.

Redact addresses and private device names before sharing nmcli, ip, bluetoothctl, or wpctl output.

Start diagnosis at the narrowest affected layer: stream/device for audio, NetworkManager state for connectivity, controller state for Bluetooth, and the exact user unit for portals or media services. Do not restart every user service because one icon is stale. After a supported change or restart, repeat the same read-only check and the original user action. If a configuration edit caused the issue, restore that one file or value.

The disabled Bluetooth bar icon is a shell configuration fact, not proof that the Bluetooth controller is disabled. Likewise, a visible network icon does not prove end-to-end internet access.
